Last week marked the kick-off of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for 2018. The program is a collaboration with CA$H Coalition of the Greater Capital Region, Catholic Charities Tri-County Services and United Way of the Greater Capital Region. VITA offers free tax preparation services from IRS trained and certified volunteer preparers to any family or individual with a household income not exceeding $54,000.

With another generous grant from the National Grid Foundation, Catholic Charities is able to provide emergency energy assistance to many individuals and families during the winter months. The Catholic Charities Housing Office was recently awarded a TJX Foundation Grant. The $10,000 grant will be used in support of Mercy House.
A Shelter for Women and Children located in Albany, Mercy House has 19 shelter beds and 2 transitional (longer stay) shelter beds.
